Passport Day in the USA is a Nationwide Passport Party

passport party project

Don’t have a passport or know someone without one? Now is the time to get one! The 5th annual Passport Day in the USA is on Saturday, March 9, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Without an appointment, U.S. citizens may apply for or renew their passport book or passport card at any one of 25 passport agencies/centers that are open to the general public.  Focus of this years Passport Day in the USA is family travel.

Passport Day in the USA is a nationwide passport party.  Joining the party is The Passport Party Project, founded by travel-preneur, travelista and OneBrownGirl.com® founder, Tracey Friley!  The Passport Party Project™ is a philanthropic global awareness initiative sponsored by the world’s largest online travel company – Expedia® – that will gift 100 underserved girls with their very first passports during a nationwide traveling campaign.  The Passport Party Project is recruiting travel and/or lifestyle bloggers in different cities nationwide that would like to be a small part of a young girl’s first international travel experience by giving her the gift of a free passport (and a cool passport cover from Tepper Jackson).  Bloggers will facilitate the young girl’s “passport experience” from start to finish.

Want to get involved and be a part of this empowering project?

1. Find a girl 11-15 years old that would like her first passport (no renewals!) and make sure she and her parents are physically available to meet you first thing in the morning on Saturday, March 9, 2013. They will need to bring their daughter’s original birth certificate and will be required to sign liability waivers and photo release documents, as will you.
2. Read and familiarize yourself with the passport requirements keeping in mind that children from single parent households will require additional (original) documents. The information and passport requirements can be found here.
3. Once your participation is confirmed, you will be asked to use the hashtag #PassportPartyProject and tweet, Facebook, Instagram, etc. a blog post with a photo of the minor you have selected letting everyone know that she’s getting her first passport on Passport Day in the USA. Minors should always be referred to by first name and last initial only.
4. You will be sent appropriate passport application and photo fees and the Passport Project Party will inform the State Department of your arrival on Saturday, March 9, 2013, when you will be asked to use social media to document the day.
5. The #PassportPartyProject will be using social media from the day of your first blog post to promote your participation.
6. Please do not select a girl formally until you have been confirmed. If the Passport Party Project gets too many bloggers in one city (Atlanta, for example), the project will only be able to pick one, maybe two.
Time is of the essence! If you are 100000% committed, please email the Passport Project TODAY (PassportProjectParty@gmail.com) with a yes, your name, the name of your blog, and what city you are in.  Once confirmed by the project, by February 18th you will need to have the following:
1. The name of the young girl.
2. Have all necessary documents from the parent(s).
3. Confirmation that the parent(s) and young girl are available on March 9.
4. Must have a photo of girl holding a sign that says “I’m getting my first passport” along with all the required release forms
Want to party, the Passport Party Project looks forward to hearing from you!
