How Bloggers Can Use HARO

Haro for Bloggers:

What is HARO?

HARO stands for Help a Reporter Out. It’s a way for journalists/writers to connect with reliable sources for expert interviews.

“HARO distributes more than 50,000 journalist queries from highly respected media outlets each year. Its straight-forward pitching process allows sources to find topics related to their expertise, industry or experience while allowing journalists and bloggers to spend more time writing and less time sourcing.”

HARO is owned by Cision, which also operates Gorkana Group, PRWeb, and iContact brands.

Sign up for HARO as a source

Register for HARO by submitting your contact information, location, and name of your business. It’s simple to do and free.

Follow the HARO rules for sources that include no spamming reporters and no pitching products without a direct request to do so.

Read the daily emails seeking sources

Three times a day, Monday through Friday, you’ll receive a detailed list of opportunities to be featured in media interviews.

Respond to Pitches

In a timely manner, respond to the reporters using the HARO email account that’s included.

Submit Queries for Roundups & Product Reviews

Although you signed up for HARO as a source, you can still submit queries to interview sources and request products.

Public relations teams are always on the hunt to feature their client’s products. Be specific on your topic, requests and deadlines.

You’ll notice that around holidays and prime shopping times, magazines and talk shows are seeking products to feature in gift guides.

Observe Trends

With three daily emails each day, you’ll notice the HARO requests are often trending topics. Can you borrow any of these ideas to create your own content based on your personal experience or expertise?

Comment below: Tell us about your last media interview or feature in an article. Did you include it in your media kit? How have you used HARO in the past?
