3 Blogger Etiquette Rules You Can Start Doing Today!

Blogging is a community. We answer each other’s questions. Engage with each other’s content. We even collaborate on sponsored campaigns and brand partnerships. We attend press trips and tours with each other. In any profession, there are dos and don’ts that are acceptable. Here’s a look at three blogger etiquette rules you can start doing today. You’re welcome to add your suggestions and insight in the comments.

Blogger Etiquette Rules:

1. Link Back & Cite Inspiration

If you’re inspired by someone else’s blog post or find that their content relates well to yours, link back to it. It’s also known as “link love.”

By linking back, you’re showing respect to the original content creator. You’re also telling search engines that their work is credible.

Cite who inspired you to write on a  related topic or create a related tutorial. To help boost traffic, create a round up blog post with a list of bloggers who inspired you.

Take the time to thank bloggers for stopping by and commenting on your blog.

If a fellow influencer is kind enough to retweet your posts, reply with a thank you.

If you’re overwhelmed with work, this is a task you could easily assign to a virtual assistant. Make sure they know your tone and personality so that your replies reflect that.

3. Be careful asking for contact information

This is a huge pet peeve among some bloggers. Imagine that an influencer you don’t know sends you an inbox message to ask how you landed a sponsored post and asks for the contact information they’d need to do something similar.

You took the time to foster the relationship with the PR rep or brand. You’ve done great work. You may not want to risk that relationship by handing over contact information to a blogger you don’t know.

On the other hand, if you have a blogging buddy who’s been supportive of your career. You trust their work and they trust yours. You may feel more comfortable passing along the email address for a brand rep or sending an introduction email.
